Neighborhoods make a city vibrant – the people, the businesses, the parks, and the culture. When neighborhoods are subjected to vacant and abandon homes and vacant lots, a neighborhood can lose its energy. In these areas, illegal dumping, health and safety issues and the potential for criminal activity may occur.
Environmental Health Safety & Management helps neighborhoods reclaim their vibrancy by cleaning up abandoned properties when no one else will take responsibility. The department participates in citywide clean ups and partners with neighborhood organizations when they sponsor clean up days to keep neighborhoods clean and improve the quality of life for the residents. Staff from the department have been known to help with snow removal and heavy trash pickup.
