Water Quality – Watershed

Water Quality primarily provides sampling and testing services to determine the quality of Marion County’s surface and groundwater resources. Based on collected data and inspection results, Water Quality determines if a public health threat exists and works to reduce and/or eliminate environmental and public health risk factors.

Services include:

  • Sampling and testing of groundwater to assess the quality of residential well water. If necessary, completing follow-up well water sampling and testing to verify the removal of environmental health threats.
  • Monthly sampling of surface waters to monitor bacterial and chemical contaminants in the County’s streams, rivers and lakes.
  • Macroinvertebrate collection and assessment are used as an indicator of overall stream health.
  • Responding to complaints regarding non-permitted surface water discharges, sanitary sewer overflows and other public health threats related to water quality.
