The Marion County Public Health Department’s Social Workers provide a range of services, including individual and family counseling, connection to resources, outreach and education, and parenting classes.

Danielle Rhodes, MCPHD’s Administrator of Social Work, said the department recently added three bachelor’s-level licensed social workers as case managers, which allows the master’s-level licensed social workers to focus more of their time on the counseling needs of clients and families.

“Often, if someone doesn’t have their basic needs met, it is hard for them to focus on their mental health,” Rhodes said. “The case managers have been a great addition to our team, helping clients with specific, short-term needs.”

LaTisha Black, one of MCPHD’s Social Work Case Managers, said she mainly works with clients who need help with housing or food insecurity, or with accessing services or resources. She often provides helps clients locate and apply for services, and then provides the client with a warm handoff to the new organization, she said. Being a case manager can take patience and resourcefulness, but Black says she really enjoys it.

“This is my jam,” she said. “I just like helping people.”
